Linkin Park‘s new co-vocalist will be Emily Armstrong of the band Dead Sara, the band announced Thursday during a live performance event. Colin Brittain, a songwriter and producer for G Flip, Illenium and One OK Rock, will also join the group as a drummer.
The announcement came with a new single, “The Emptiness Machine,” the band’s first new music release in seven years, and the lead track for an upcoming album dubbed “From Zero.” The set will arrive on Nov. 15 (via Warner Records) as their first full-length effort since 2017’s “One More Light,” also the last Linkin Park album before the death of lead vocalist Chester Bennington.
The group will also embark on a six-date arena tour, hitting major cities including Los Angeles, New York, Hamburg, London, Seoul, and Bogota. See the complete tour routing below.
Linkin Park — comprised of its new members and Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson, Phoenix, Joe Hahn — performed together for the first time in Los Angeles on Thursday for ticketed fans who were transported by buses to a studio lot. The event was live streamed and will be available to view on Linkin Park’s official online channels for the next 24 hours.
According to a press release, Shinoda, Delson, Farrell, and Hahn “quietly began meeting up again in recent years” and “rather than ‘trying to restart the band,’” they worked with numerous musicians and “found a special kinship with Armstong and Brittain.”
About the new era, Shinoda said in a statement, “Before Linkin Park, our first band name was Xero. This album title refers to both this humble beginning and the journey we’re currently undertaking. Sonically and emotionally, it is about past, present, and future—embracing our signature sound, but new and full of life. It was made with a deep appreciation for our new and longtime bandmates, our friends, our family, and our fans. We are proud of what Linkin Park has become over the years, and excited about the journey ahead.”
“The Emptiness Machine” is said to “channel the DNA of Linkin Park.” Shinoda said the band feels “really empowered with this new lineup and the vibrant and energized new music we’ve made together,” adding that they are “weaving together the sonic touchpoints we’ve been known for and still exploring new ones.”
Pre-sale tickets for the “From Zero” tour will be available for the LP Underground fan club starting Sept. 6. The general sale will start the following day on Sept. 7.
This announcement follows Linkin Park’s release of their “Papercuts (Singles Collection 2000-2023)” from earlier this spring. The 20-song LP collected the best-selling band’s greatest hits across a two-decade-plus run. It was released via Warner Records, and features songs including “In the End,” “Burn It Down” and a Jay-Z mash-up, “Numb/Encore,” as well as “Lost,” which helped propel its parent LP, “Meteora,” to return to the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 chart.
